At Spill the Tea Café, we believe that every young person in Hawaii deserves access to mental health care.
Our beautiful state faces deep disparities, with Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and LGBTQ+ youth disproportionately affected. These young people face tremendous barriers like lack of insurance, unsafe home environments, financial struggles, and systemic discrimination, making it difficult to get the support they need to thrive.
The reality is heartbreaking:
• 50% of transgender youth in Hawaii attempted suicide last year.
• Hawaii has only one therapist available for every 360 kids needing mental health care.
• Mental health care is costly, ranging from $80 to $150 per session, and meaningful progress often takes 6-12 months of consistent care.
LGBTQ+ youth face greater risks of homelessness, mental health challenges, substance abuse, and sex work—not because they are inherently vulnerable, but due to the discrimination they experience. You can make a difference today!
